About

We’re delivering better health outcomes for all Victorians

100,000 Lives is a five-year program to reduce harm and improve health outcomes.

Through small and large-scale improvement projects, we’re partnering with health services, consumers and experts to identify specific problems and risks in healthcare. Then we test, learn and fine tune improvements that can be implemented across the sector. For the first time, we’re tracking our progress by using the most important measure of all: Victorian lives. 100,000 of them.

Background

More than 500,000 Victorians experience unintended harm, preventable hospital admissions and unnecessary intervention each year.

Historically bridging the evidence-practice gap takes years. We’re speeding up the adoption of new evidence in healthcare by collaborating with clinical experts, people with lived experience and academics. This way we can share our learnings to deliver sustainable positive improvements.

About our projects

We use improvement science to ensure all project outcomes are evidence-based, consistent and reliable.

Improvement science is a practical method for testing and refining change ideas based on what we’re learning to achieve impactful outcomes. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, we leverage the evidence base and adopt whatever is considered best practice, locally and globally, and seek insights from consumers and healthcare workers about what changes are needed.

Communications toolkit

You’re a part of this program as much as we are. Let’s celebrate our success together.
