Simon was introduced to improvement science while working as a scientist at Kodak, by a talented and eccentric consulting statistician. He took the opportunity to learn and apply concepts including statistical process control, design of experiments, and statistical process modelling.

Simon decided to pursue a career in improvement, working mostly with manufacturing organisations across a number of sectors. He also undertook further studies to support this new field of work, and taught undergraduate and post graduate students at RMIT and Swinburne University for several years. In 2015, he transitioned to healthcare, joining Northern Health’s’ improvement team and in 2017, joined the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Simon has tertiary qualifications in science, organisation change and development, competitive enterprise (lean systems), and sustainability.

Why I do what I do

“Being innately inquisitive, I love the way this work continually introduces me to people who are working in complex systems which are riven with gripping problems. The great privilege of my role is that it allows me to utilise a range of skills and my experience to contribute to the development of some wonderful people, who are dedicated to helping others and making our world a little bit better one system at a time.”
