Safety cultures

Safety culture is an organisational culture that places a high level of importance on safety beliefs, values, attitudes, and practices. A powerful predictor of patient harm, it plays a pivotal role in shaping the quality of care in healthcare systems.

We are developing a guideline to enable Victorian health services (specifically Board and executives) to better understand and improve safety culture within their organisation.

We are seeking Board members, executives, and safety culture subject matter experts to inform the guidelines design and development and ensure it meets the needs of its intended audience.

Who should apply?

  • Board members accountable for setting organisational culture and ensuring safety culture practices align to organisational goals.
  • Executives responsible for leading safety initiatives at an organisational level.
  • Safety culture, quality and safety or human factors experts or risk managers with subject matter expertise in patient safety, risk management, and safety culture.
  • Consumers and lived experience experts with insight into patient experience and its impact on safety culture.
  • Frontline health clinicians with knowledge in quality and safety and understanding of safety culture.

Why should I apply?

Members of this expert advisory group will:

  • contribute to the development of a guideline that can positively impact safety culture and contribute to safer, more effective, person-centred care for Victorians
  • share knowledge, experience and best practices related to safety culture in healthcare settings
  • contribute to the development of strategies and recommendations that lead to improved safety practices
  • connect and network with experts and leaders in the field of healthcare safety
  • add to their professional growth and reputations by showcasing their commitment to patient safety and healthcare excellence.
