You will need to:

- contact the potential independent panel member via the details on their profile
- determine independence, suitability and availability
- negotiate working requirements and expectations.

Become an independent panel member
We're looking healthcare, quality and safety and consumer applicants who:
have experience in adverse patient safety event reviews
are interested in helping health services undertake reviews and learn from serious adverse patient safety events
hold a formal position at a Victorian public or private health service and have agreement from their employer to participate as an independent panel member for serious or sentinel event work at other health services. Please note this is mandatory for insurance purposes.
Successful independent panel members will:
- have their profile published on the PEER platform
- be contactable by health services
- have permission from their substantive employer to participate in serious or sentinel event review work at other health services
- declare conflicts of interest
- negotiate working arrangements and expectations with health services
- notify SCV of any changes to information.

SCV recommends that these services are performed on a quid pro quo basis and therefore cost neutral where possible. It is estimated that independent panel members will provide up to six hours of time per review however this is negotiable between the health service and the independent panel member.
Privacy
SCV collects and publishes personal information on the PEER platform to enable health services to browse and contact registered individuals to find a suitable independent panel member to participate in serious or sentinel event reviews.
In order to fulfil this purpose, your personal information will be published on our public facing website. If you do not provide us with the information requested in the registration form or consent to having your personal information (including your photo) listed on our public website, we will not be able to consider you as a potential independent panel member
